Vent About Sweden’s Founder Lauren Ell was featured on November 30, 2024 in Dagens Nyheter, one of the largest media outlets in Sweden, to discuss her life in Sweden.
Ell shared that she moved to a village outside of Gällivare in 2016 to live with her Swedish boyfriend. She originally intended to live abroad for only a couple years and then return back to the United States. However her stay has been prolonged since she and her partner had children.
She noted it has been difficult living in the far north, partly because of the harsh climate and dark winters, but mostly because of the antisocial and closed community she lives in. The local elementary school has very low student enrollment and clubs are having difficulty with obtaining board members. Meanwhile Ell has hosted numerous social events in the area but more often than not no one shows up.
